Habitat Takes on Largest Project in Affiliate History!

On June 16, 2010, in partnership with the Pennsylvania Department of Community Economic Development and the Chester County Department of Community Development, Habitat for Humanity of Chester County acquired the Cambria Homes site in the City of Coatesville.  Forty-five affordable homes will be built over the next six years.

A majority of the infrastructure is complete and the building plans are approved – putting us in a great position to start six houses this fall, all located on Community Drive (pictured above).

We are seeking house sponsorship funds to enable our volunteers to complete six or seven houses each year, so every dollar counts.  And of course we’ll need plenty of willing hands to hammer, insulate, drywall, and paint alongside the future owners as they complete their sweat equity requirement.

It’s hard to believe that this area was once dominated by dilapidated housing in the form of massive concrete apartment buildings.  By merely glancing up the hill today, one can see the remarkable changes that have already been made, thanks to donor dollars and the hard efforts of our volunteers.  With twenty-two Habitat homeowners already residing on the site, this area is now filled with the love and laughter of hard-working families who have a decent, affordable place to live.

Those interested in learning more about becoming a Habitat homeowner, please contact Bobette Meeter at (610) 384-7993, ext. 14 or Bobette@hfhcc.org.  Families selected for these particular homes must have an income ranging from $23,000 to $62,000.  For those interested in volunteering or making a donation, please email us at info@hfhcc.org.
